My actual Pat Metheny audition. I’m playing acoustic on the right side of the mix to Pat’s record on the left.

Lauren Passarelli ~ Pat Metheny Audition

“What a great story! And superbly recounted, as well. And your ending observations are on the money.” ~ Ted Kulber

“Absolutely brilliant – every bit of it: the experience, your playing, and your inspiring distillation of the learning. Thank you for this! No wonder Pat Metheny says you’re an awesome guitarist!” ~ Kate Chadbourne

It is great practice to play what you hear, like drawing what you see, it teaches how to hear how to see, in this case, how to play like the greats. Playing exactly like the record to the best of your abilities, allows you to grow and increase your musicianship and musical sensibilities. Turns out it is very helpful in nailing auditions when a band wants you to play their songs their way.

This is my audition for, Pat Metheny and The Secret Story Tour, of 1992. This video is for teaching purposes, and does not infringe on any copyrights or ownership of the song, It’s For You, written by Pat Metheny. I am playing along with the record and doing my best to sound like the rhythm guitar part I was auditioning for.

New Version - Beatles - Lauren Passarelli

“A supremely gifted and engaging entertainer……a performance at once educational and artistically dazzling…….and FUN! This is delightful……entrancing….that music…those guitar parts are woven into our DNA…..your mastery of this genre is spellbinding….the rhythm guitar of “All My Loving” was worth the price of admission…It is late at night and I have been enjoying your performance while tucked in, watching in the dark the “clearer” video you posted today…..I’m halfway through and have to sleep now and “When You Call My Name…Bye-Bye” has just lulled me near slumber……You are such an enjoyable performer….I can’t wait to watch the other half in the morning….The Beatles minutiae is fascinating and the repertoire you played was so accurate in technique, but more than that you captured the alchemy of those four lads……and a cool bonus is that I enjoyed your songs every bit as much….thanks for sharing that very special moment Lauren…..I was grinning a grin so wide I thought my face might break.” ~ Craig Saxton
